Rick's VX800

OK so I sold my VX.  There was a sweet Honda VFR calling my name and I unfortunately couldn't keep both.  This page has generated a lot of questions from current and future VX owners, so I'm going to keep it up as a sort of reference.  Plus I miss the bike and the website reminds me of a lot of good memories with it!

Here is a picture of me and my VX. {Thanks for the pic, Bryce!}  These days I'm wearing a Reima Cycloak Evolution jacket and Cycloak GT Pro pants, either a Shoei TZ-1 or Bieffe B8 helmet, Tour Master studded palm gloves and Teknic Defender boots.  The Joe Rocket suit you see in the picture unfortunately gave it's life protecting me in a 50mph pavement surfing session.  I must say it did a fine job!

This site is dedicated to my 91 Suzuki VX800. The VX is a unique bike right out the gate, and mine may be more unique than most. My bike is a rebuilt/salvaged California model that I've gone though considerable time and expense to bring back from the brink of breaker-dom. I could not have come this far without the help of the good folks at GMD Computrack Boston, my long-suffering but very patient wife Valerie, my friends Chris Etz. and Glen from the Suzuki Owners Club, or all my friends on the VX800 listservs.

Work I have done or had done on this bike so far includes {but is not limited to!} frame alignment at Computrack, replaced fork tubes with "Forking by Frank" replacements, changed fork seals and added progressive springs with 15w fork oil {thanks Glen!}, correctly installed a Superbrace fork brace {long story}, replaced the tires with Dunlop D205 radials {later Avon ST 45/46 tires, which were awesome!}, replaced handlebar with an aftermarket bar that is wider and flatter for a more sporty forward lean, replaced cheesy aftermarket mirrors with a set of less-cheesy EMGO teardrop mirrors, and replaced stock seat with a slightly used Corbin seat {thanks Harry!} {Later I had a Travelcade seat which was just great}. I also added a Rifle Nightflight fairing that I got from an Ebay auction to take a little windblast off my chest.  The front brake line was replaced with a Goodridge braided line, with the help of Etz and Giselle.   I got my paint done by a shop called B&B Autobody in West Haverstraw NY.  Etz and I replaced and shimmed the clutch springs and replaced the clutch cable for a 100% improvement. Race Tech "Cartridge Emulators" were installed in the forks, and a set of Hagon shocks were installed.  The bike ran and handled great and I was proud to ride it anywhere and everywhere.

Here is my bike, showing the turn signals I installed.  They are OEM replacements for the Yamaha TDM among other Yamahas.  An advantage of these turn signals is that the front signals also function as running lights {dual filament.} Thanks for hooking them up without letting the smoke out, Glen!  There are other pictures of my VX on the "New Pictures" page and elsewhere on this site.  Also notice the polished grab rail, I still have the color matched one in storage.
